Sage Intacct 2026 R2 delivers AI-powered 3-way matching, streamlined fixed assets, and UK-ready construction retainage. See what matters for your finance team.
Sage has started rolling out Sage Intacct 2026 Release 2, and the software just keeps getting better and better.
Let's have a look at some of the highlights of this latest release:
AI-Powered 3-Way Matching: Exceptions, Not Busy Work
Header-level document matching has been around for years — but it only confirms that Invoice #12345 matches PO #98765. It doesn't catch the line 3 quantity variance where the PO specified 100 units, the receipt confirmed 95, and the invoice charges for 105.
R2's intelligent 3-way matching changes that. The system now applies AI at the line level:
Automatically flags quantity and price differences between matched documents
Applies tolerance thresholds (so £0.02 rounding differences don't need review)
Surfaces genuine exceptions for your AP team to handle
The result: your team focuses on real discrepancies, not busy work.
Fixed Assets: Three Improvements, One Theme
R2 delivers three interconnected improvements that address month-end reconciliation pain.
Combine depreciation across multiple assets into single journal entries, grouped by journal, posting date, GL accounts, and dimensions. Instead of reviewing 47 individual postings, you're reconciling 3 summarised entries.
Divide existing assets into up to 20 independent assets directly from the asset record. Cost, salvage value, and depreciation recalculate automatically. Audit trail maintained through a new Splits tab.
Correct mistakes by creating offsetting journal entries instead of deleting original postings. Compliance-friendly — preserves the audit trail while letting you fix and repost.
⚠️ Important: These features require setting Correction treatment to Reverse. This is a one-way change — once enabled, you can't revert to the delete-based approach. Discuss with your implementation partner first.
Construction Retainage: The UK Way!
Previously, releasing retainage meant line-by-line calculations. Need to release 50% at practical completion? Calculate each invoice line manually.
R2 adds a Release retainage button to project contracts:
Enter a percentage (e.g., 50%)
System calculates per-line amounts automatically
Accounts for previously released amounts
Enter 100% when defect period ends to release remaining balance
Multi-Currency Project Insights
For organisations running international projects, R2 removes the "base currency only" limitation.
The new Display currency dropdown on project summary tabs lets you:
Switch between currencies instantly
Get automatic Daily Rate conversion
Drill down to supporting GL transactions (with proper permissions)
No more exporting data to convert manually!
Early Adopter Features Worth Watching
Three features are available through the Early Adopter programme — not generally available yet, but worth knowing about
- Custom Purchasing approvals
Rule-based approval routing using supplier details, currency, and transaction totals. Combine conditions with AND/OR logic. Route to specific users or groups.
- Automatic payment reminders
One-click reminder emails from Cash Requirements. System identifies customers with invoices due within 14 days (configurable), excludes anyone reminded in the last 10 days, and sends bulk reminders.
- Finance Intelligence agent
The standout AI development. Ask questions about financial data in natural language via Sage Copilot. "Show me unpaid bills over 60 days" becomes a conversation, not a report-building exercise.
Note: Finance Intelligence has a phased rollout — Sage enables companies over time. Currently US English only.
Making the Most of R2
R2's features require proper configuration. The 3-way matching setup, Fixed Assets Correction treatment decisions, and retainage configuration need to be implemented correctly from the start. Be sure to discuss with your implementation partner which features make the most sense for your organisation.
If you're an accord customer evaluating which R2 features make sense for your finance team, a get in touch with our Support Team. We'll assess your current setup and outline what's worth enabling.
